A successful product is taking shape
Xavitech AB is developing, manufacturing and selling small diaphragm pumps for applications mainly in the global medical industrial segment. Xavitech was founded in the year shift between 2004 and 2005 by Johan Stenberg, earlier CEO of MedAir. The goal of Xavitech’s operations was to develop a new type of diaphragm pump that would be based on an alternate solution from the existing brushless motors which, at that time was relatively expensive. At first, Johan Stenberg had to work as an electronics design consultant for the business to stay floating, but as the business and the products further developed, Xavitech managed to patent two solutions within the area of diaphragm pumps. Xavitech’s new solution with the electric motor in the pump, based on electromagnetic technology, is where Xavitech has its first patent and the new product showed to have many benefits – especially very cost effective to manufacture. The new electromagnetic pump has minimal friction which makes it idealistic for pumping both gas and liquid. The pumps were also equipped with an integrated, patented, optical control system which gave the pump the ability to measure and control pressure and flow without surrounding sensors.
Xavitech is programming the pumps to perform the functions required by the customer and thereby, Xavitech’s solution can save both components and development time in the customers systems. An intelligent pump, that is.
Suppliers and partners for assured product profitability
Xavitech’s Time-To-Market is very critical for the company’s development and profitability. Once you have placed your competitive product on the market it is important for the product to meet the highly set expectations of quality, reliability and withstanding. The design in the first product launch was closed with satisfying quality and performance but there was much more to wish for when it comes to design for profitability. Already at the PCB stage there were severe yield issues in the production and the Flex-Rigid PCB with tight tolerances caused problems both at the PCB factory and at the EMS provider Chip & Circuit. Xavitech has chosen to collaborate with Chip and Circuit for its attractive pricing but most of all its competence within production technology and its short lead times. After a period of direct sourcing of PCB from a manufacturer from Korea, Xavitech’s product manager Jonathan Grip got in contact with Macer Sweden.
”Macer Sweden has given us significantly better quality and thereby they have also increased our product profitability. In addition we have by this collaboration learned a lot along the way”, Xavitech’s product manager Jonathan Grip stated.
Xavitech today collaborates with Macer Sweden and Chip & Circuit Nord for producability, designand supply of PCB as well as manufacturing. The result from this ongoing cooperation is heavily increased yield in the manufacturing as well as significantly reduced issues in both PCB manufacturing and at the EMS provider Chip & Circuit where the control boards are assembled.
Macer Sweden has with focus on reliability and product profitability reviewed the entire design of the control board from which Macer Sweden among other things has supported Xavitech with
build-up- and panel optimizing. This is to meet demands from form factor and requirements of functionality, quality and robustness. The product is today running in production and the collaboration between Chip & Circuit, Xavitech and Macer Sweden has led to a yield increase of 90%.
”The first board was not even adapted for manufacturing. The panel was so badly designed so that we couldn’t either print solder paste on it or use it in the SMT equipment. The adjustments that Macer Sweden has made assured the producability of the boards and the problems we experienced before are now eliminated. The manufacturing cost of this board is now reduced significantly compared to earlier”, stated Chip & Circuit’s CEO Lars Sjöblom.
